Overview

Pioglitazone + curcumin is an unbranded combination comprising pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione-class antidiabetic agent and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) agonist, and curcumin, a polyphenolic compound from turmeric with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potential antineoplastic properties. This combination has been studied in preclinical models for its synergistic effects in diabetes and cancer, showing that curcumin can inhibit the metabolism of pioglitazone (raising its plasma levels and potentially enhancing efficacy and risk) and that both agents may exert additive effects on glycemic control, insulin sensitivity, and tissue protection. In experimental settings, the combination modulated several targets, including PPAR-γ and pathways involved in inflammation, fibrosis, oxidative stress, and cancer cell metabolism. There is no evidence this combination is formally approved or marketed as a fixed-dose product.
