Overview

Peomet-15 is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product containing pioglitazone and metformin hydrochloride, developed and marketed by Forgo Pharmaceuticals. It is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Pioglitazone belongs to the thiazolidinedione class and acts as a potent agonist for the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-γ), which regulates the transcription of insulin-responsive genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism, thereby improving insulin sensitivity. Metformin is a biguanide that lowers blood glucose levels by inhibiting hepatic glucose production (gluconeogenesis), decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. Together, these agents provide complementary mechanisms to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
