Pioz

Pioz is a generic formulation of pioglitazone, an oral antidiabetic agent belonging to the thiazolidinedione class. Marketed by Ryvis Pharma, it acts as a potent and selective agonist for the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ). By activating PPARγ, Pioz modulates the transcription of genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism, thereby increasing insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues such as adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, and the liver. It is primarily indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents like metformin or sulfonylureas. As a thiazolidinedione, it helps lower blood glucose levels without increasing insulin secretion, reducing the risk of hypoglycemia when used alone.
