Piper betle extract is a botanical extract derived from the leaves of the *Piper betle* plant, commonly known as betel. It contains a variety of bioactive compounds, including eugenol, hydroxychavicol, and various polyphenols. Preclinical research indicates that the extract possesses significant antihypercholesterolemic and antioxidant properties. In animal models of hypercholesterolemia, it has been shown to reduce serum levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) while increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and enhancing the activity of hepatic antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase and catalase. Its lipid-lowering efficacy is largely attributed to its constituent eugenol, which exhibits potency comparable to the statin drug lovastatin.
