Drug intelligence / Profile preview
piperacillin 2% + tazobactam 0.25% (also known as YH1177-D at this dose level) is an investigational otic solution developed by Yuhan for the treatment of otitis media and otorrhea. It is a fixed-dose combination of piperacillin, a broad-spectrum ureidopenicillin antibiotic, and tazobactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Piperacillin works by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential for bacterial cell wall synthesis, while tazobactam protects piperacillin from enzymatic degradation by beta-lactamases. The formulation was evaluated in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial (NCT02817347) in patients with otitis media and otorrhea, but development was subsequently terminated.
