Drug intelligence / Profile preview
piperacillin 4% + tazobactam 0.5% (also known as YH1177-D at this dose) is an investigational topical otic (ear drop) solution developed by Yuhan Corporation. It is a small molecule combination antibiotic containing piperacillin, a broad-spectrum penicillin-type beta-lactam antibiotic, and tazobactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Piperacillin works by binding to and inhibiting bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis, while tazobactam protects piperacillin from degradation by beta-lactamases. This formulation is being evaluated for the treatment of otitis media and otorrhea, particularly in patients with tympanostomy tubes or tympanic membrane perforations.
