piperacillin sodium + sulbactam sodium

Piperacillin sodium + sulbactam sodium (2:1) is an injectable antibiotic combination developed by Guangzhou Welman Pharmaceutical (also known as Xiangbei Welman Pharmaceutical). This combination therapy pairs piperacillin, a broad-spectrum ureidopenicillin, with sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Piperacillin exerts its bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Sulbactam protects piperacillin from degradation by various beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, thereby extending its spectrum of activity. The 2:1 ratio formulation is specifically indicated for moderate to severe bacterial infections, including respiratory and urinary tract infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing pathogens such as *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, *Enterococcus*, and *Bacteroides*. It was approved and launched in China in 2005.
