Piperidolate is a synthetic small molecule antimuscarinic (anticholinergic) drug used primarily as an antispasmodic agent for the symptomatic treatment of smooth muscle pain and spasms associated with gastrointestinal disorders such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, enteritis, gallstones, cholecystitis, and biliary tract dyskinesia. It acts by competitively inhibiting muscarinic acetylcholine receptors at post-ganglionic cholinergic sites in smooth muscle tissue. This blockade reduces acetylcholine-induced contractions in the gastrointestinal tract and other smooth muscles (including uterine muscle), thereby relieving spasms and discomfort. Piperidolate may also have local anesthetic effects similar to cocaine on mucous membranes[1][4][5][6][7][8].
