Overview

Pirarubicin is an anthracycline antitumor antibiotic and a structural analogue of doxorubicin. It acts primarily by intercalating into DNA and inhibiting topoisomerase II, thereby blocking DNA replication, repair, and RNA/protein synthesis. Compared to doxorubicin, pirarubicin is less cardiotoxic and can be effective against some doxorubicin-resistant cancer cell lines. It is used mainly as a chemotherapeutic agent for various cancers, especially solid tumors[1][2][4].
