Pirarubicin + oxaliplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen being investigated as an adjuvant treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) following radical resection. Pirarubicin is a semi-synthetic anthracycline derivative that acts by intercalating into DNA and inhibiting topoisomerase II, thereby preventing DNA replication and RNA synthesis. Oxaliplatin is a third-generation platinum-based antineoplastic agent that forms intra- and inter-strand DNA cross-links, which inhibit DNA synthesis and transcription, leading to apoptosis. This specific combination is being evaluated by Guangxi Medical University in clinical trials to compare its efficacy against transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in reducing recurrence and improving survival in HCC patients.
