Overview

Pirnabine is a synthetic small molecule drug classified as a cannabinoid receptor ligand. It was originally developed for the treatment of glaucoma and has also been investigated in clinical trials for chronic idiopathic constipation. Pirnabine is structurally related to dibenzopyran compounds and may exert its effects by binding to cannabinoid receptors involved in gastrointestinal motility regulation, although its precise mechanism of action remains under investigation. The compound's IUPAC name is 3,6,6,9-tetramethyl-6H,7H,8H,9H,10H-cyclohexa[c]chromen-1-yl acetate.
