Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PIROMAL is a CE-certified medical device (CE 0426) developed by Aurora Biofarma for the prevention and treatment of gastric hyperacidity, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). It is also indicated for the protection of the gastric and esophageal mucosa. The product contains a combination of active ingredients, including potassium alginate (or sodium alginate), calcium carbonate, potassium bicarbonate, and *Tamarindus indica* seed extract. PIROMAL functions through a physical mechanism rather than a pharmacological one; upon contact with gastric acid, the alginate forms a viscous "raft" or gel barrier that floats on the stomach contents, physically preventing the reflux of acid into the esophagus. Simultaneously, the carbonate and bicarbonate components help neutralize excess gastric acid. It is available in chewable tablets and gel stick packs.
