Overview

Piroxicam + lidocaine is a topical or locally administered combination of two active pharmaceutical ingredients: piroxicam, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and lidocaine, a local anesthetic. Piroxicam acts primarily by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in inflammation and pain signaling. Lidocaine works by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels on neuronal cell membranes, thereby preventing the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses responsible for pain sensation. This combination is used to provide both anti-inflammatory effects and local anesthesia for enhanced pain relief in various clinical settings such as minor surgical procedures, gynecological interventions (e.g., aspiration curettage), extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), and potentially other painful conditions requiring both analgesia and reduction of inflammation[5][7].
