Overview

Pistacia mutica extract refers to extracts derived from the fruit, leaves, or oil of *Pistacia atlantica* subsp. *mutica*, a subspecies of wild pistachio native to parts of the Middle East and Central Asia. Traditionally used in folk medicine for gastrointestinal disorders (such as peptic ulcer), wound healing, and as a mouth freshener, this botanical preparation is rich in bioactive compounds including monoterpenes (notably α-pinene), phenolic acids (gallic acid), flavonoids (quercetin derivatives), and triterpenes. Pharmacological studies have demonstrated antioxidant activity—enhancing enzymatic antioxidants like superoxide dismutase and catalase—antimicrobial effects, anti-inflammatory properties, antihyperlipidemic action, antidiabetic potential, and inhibition of melanogenesis via tyrosinase inhibition in cell models[1][2][3][7]. The mechanism is primarily attributed to its polyphenol content acting as free radical scavengers and enzyme modulators.
