Overview

Pisum sativum, commonly known as the garden pea or green pea, is a leguminous plant whose extract (pisum sativum whole) is used primarily as an allergenic extract in allergy testing. The plant contains various bioactive compounds including polyphenols, flavonoids, and phytosterols that have demonstrated antioxidant, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antihypercholesterolemic, antibacterial, antifungal and potential anticancer activities in preclinical studies. Pisum sativum is also a source of dietary protein and fiber. Its mechanism of action in allergy testing involves eliciting an immune response to identify sensitivity to pea allergens[1][3][4].
