Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ALC-2207 is a generic formulation of **pitavastatin calcium**, a third-generation HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) developed by **Korea Arlico Pharm**. It is indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. Pitavastatin works by competitively inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which catalyzes the rate-limiting step in cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver. This inhibition leads to an increase in the expression of LDL receptors on hepatocyte membranes, enhancing the uptake and catabolism of LDL cholesterol from the circulation. ALC-2207 was developed as a generic alternative to the reference drug **Livalo** (marketed by JW Pharmaceutical in Korea). It is administered orally and is characterized by its potent LDL-lowering effects and minimal metabolism by the cytochrome P450 system, which reduces the potential for drug-drug interactions compared to other statins.
