Overview

A PIV5-based H5N1 vaccine is a recombinant live-attenuated viral vector vaccine that uses Parainfluenza Virus 5 (PIV5) to express the hemagglutinin (HA) gene from the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus subtype H5N1. The mechanism of action involves the delivery and expression of the influenza HA antigen by the PIV5 vector in host cells, inducing both humoral and cellular immune responses against HPAI H5N1. This approach has demonstrated sterilizing immunity in animal models with a single low-dose intranasal administration. The platform offers advantages such as high yield production in tissue culture and needle-free delivery. CyanVac is developing proprietary intranasal vaccines using this technology[1][3][4][6].
