The PIV5-based H7N9 vaccine is a live, intranasal viral vector vaccine candidate designed to protect against infection by the avian influenza A (H7N9) virus. It uses Parainfluenza Virus 5 (PIV5) as a vector to express the hemagglutinin (HA) protein from the H7N9 influenza strain. The mechanism of action involves inducing both humoral and cellular immune responses against the HA antigen, providing protection even in the absence of detectable antibody responses. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that a single intranasal dose can confer complete protection in animal models challenged with lethal doses of H7N9[2]. The platform allows for rapid development and needle-free delivery via mucosal immunization. Blue Lake Biotechnology and its affiliate CyanVac are developing this technology as part of their broader pipeline targeting pandemic threats[1][4].
