Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PJ003 (also known as HZBio1) is a PEGylated recombinant urate oxidase (uricase) being developed by Chongqing Peg-Bio Biopharm and Hangzhou Grand Biologic Pharmaceutical for the treatment of gout and hyperuricemia. Humans lack a functional uricase enzyme, which normally catalyzes the conversion of poorly soluble uric acid into the more soluble and easily excreted metabolite allantoin. By supplying exogenous PEGylated uricase, PJ003 rapidly reduces serum uric acid levels and promotes the dissolution of monosodium urate crystal deposits in joints and tissues. The PEGylation of the recombinant enzyme is designed to extend its half-life and reduce immunogenicity, addressing common limitations of non-PEGylated uricase therapies. PJ003 is currently in Phase 2/3 clinical development in China.
