PK081 is a repurposed small molecule drug candidate being developed by PharmaKure for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The drug was identified using PharmaKure's proprietary ALZ-MET platform, which screens for existing drugs that can be repositioned to treat neurodegenerative diseases by targeting toxic protein aggregates. PK081 specifically targets alpha-synuclein, aiming to inhibit its aggregation into the pathological fibrils and Lewy bodies that characterize Parkinson's disease. By preventing the formation of these toxic species, PK081 is intended to act as a disease-modifying therapy. The candidate is currently in early clinical development, with pipeline data indicating it has reached Phase 1 trials.
