Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PKU EASY Microtabs is a phenylalanine-free protein substitute designed for the dietary management of Phenylketonuria (PKU) in individuals aged 3 years and older. Developed by Galen Limited and marketed through its subsidiary POA Pharma, the product is classified as a medical food or nutritional supplement rather than a traditional pharmaceutical drug. It consists of small, yellow, coated tablets containing a balanced mix of essential and non-essential amino acids, excluding phenylalanine. The formulation utilizes an ethylcellulose inner matrix to facilitate slow-release delivery of amino acids through the gastrointestinal tract, which is intended to improve metabolic absorption and palatability compared to traditional powder-based substitutes. PKU EASY Microtabs must be used under strict medical supervision and is not intended as a sole source of nutrition, requiring supplementation with natural protein and other nutrients.
