Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PLA2R-CAAR-T cells (PLA2R-CAART) is an autologous chimeric autoantibody receptor (CAAR) T-cell therapy designed to selectively target and eliminate B cells expressing autoantibodies against the M-type phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R). It is being developed for the treatment of PLA2R-associated membranous nephropathy (PLA2R MN), a B-cell-mediated autoimmune kidney disease. The therapy utilizes T cells engineered to express the extracellular domain of PLA2R, which acts as a decoy to bind specifically to anti-PLA2R autoantibody-expressing B-cell receptors (BCRs), leading to the selective cytolysis of pathogenic B cells while sparing healthy B cells. PLA2R-CAART was originally developed by the University of Pennsylvania and licensed to Cabaletta Bio.
