Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of a placebo and belimumab. Belimumab is a fully human recombinant IgG1λ monoclonal antibody that inhibits soluble B-lymphocyte stimulator protein (BLyS, also known as BAFF or TNFSF13B), which is essential for B cell survival. By binding to BLyS and blocking its interaction with B cell receptors (TACI, BCMA, BR3), belimumab reduces the survival of B cells, promotes apoptosis, and decreases the differentiation of B cells into immunoglobulin-producing plasma cells. It is primarily used as an add-on therapy for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and lupus nephritis in adults and children 5 years or older[1][2][4]. The "placebo" component refers to an inert substance with no therapeutic effect; it is commonly used in clinical trials as a control.
