Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of a placebo and fosaprepitant, typically used in clinical trials as a control or comparator arm. Fosaprepitant is an antiemetic drug, specifically a prodrug of aprepitant, and acts as a selective high-affinity antagonist of the human substance P/neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptor. It is primarily indicated for the prevention of acute and delayed nausea and vomiting associated with highly or moderately emetogenic cancer chemotherapy in adults and children aged 6 months or older. The addition of placebo serves to blind participants or investigators to treatment allocation in studies evaluating the efficacy or safety of fosaprepitant[2][3][7]. Fosaprepitant itself has little to no affinity for serotonin (5-HT3), dopamine, or corticosteroid receptors[2][3][8].
