Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination intervention used in clinical trials where participants receive both a placebo and a dose of the seasonal trivalent influenza vaccine (TIV). The "placebo" is an inert substance with no therapeutic effect, while the "seasonal TIV" refers to the standard inactivated or recombinant trivalent influenza vaccine formulated for a given flu season. The 2024–2025 U.S. formulation includes antigens from three strains of influenza virus—two A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and one B/Victoria lineage virus[2][3][4][5]. The mechanism of action for the TIV component is to stimulate an immune response against these specific viral antigens, providing protection against infection by those strains. Placebo has no pharmacological activity.
