Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The placebo hydrogel is an inactive topical formulation used as a comparator in clinical trials conducted by NanoSHIFT LLC (formerly Nanotherapeutics, Inc.). It consists of the hydrogel vehicle without the active antibiotic ingredient, doxycycline monohydrate. This specific placebo was utilized in a Phase 2 pilot study (NCT01547325) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of NanoDOX Hydrogel for the treatment of full-thickness dehisced surgical wounds. The study was supported by a contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to address complications in wound healing. As a placebo, it serves to establish a baseline for clinical outcomes and to differentiate the therapeutic effects of the active drug from the physical properties of the hydrogel base and standard wound care.
