The placebo vehicle-Pfizer-plaque psoriasis refers to the inactive topical ointment base used as a control comparator in Pfizer's Phase 2a clinical development of topical tofacitinib (CP-690,550) for the treatment of chronic plaque psoriasis. This vehicle formulation contains all the excipients and inactive ingredients of the active drug product but lacks the active Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor. In clinical trials, such as the intra-individual comparison study, it was applied to control lesions to differentiate the pharmacological effects of tofacitinib from the emollient effects of the ointment vehicle and the placebo effect.
