Placenta-extracted heat shock protein is a biologic therapeutic candidate derived from human placental tissue, containing a complex of heat shock proteins, notably gp96 (also known as GRP94). Developed by Boao Evergrande International Hospital, it is being investigated for its immunomodulatory properties in treating various autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and ankylosing spondylitis. The drug is thought to function by interacting with receptors such as CD91 (LRP1) and Toll-like receptors on antigen-presenting cells, which leads to the expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs) and the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokine production. This mechanism aims to restore immune tolerance and alleviate the pathological inflammation characteristic of autoimmune diseases.
