Placental-derived undifferentiated mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) is an investigational cell-based biologic therapy being developed and evaluated at Kasr El Aini Hospital. This regenerative medicine approach is intended to treat infertility in women undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) who suffer from recurrent implantation failure (RIF) or endometrial dysfunction, such as an unresponsive or atrophic endometrium. The therapy involves the intrauterine administration of MSCs isolated from placental tissue. These undifferentiated cells are deposited into the uterine cavity post-menstrually via an intrauterine insemination (IUI) catheter, allowing a 7-10 day window for the cells to differentiate in situ and promote endometrial regeneration. The treatment aims to improve endometrial receptivity and vascularity, thereby increasing the success rates of embryo implantation.
