Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PlantForm Corporation is developing an edible antibody therapeutic produced using its tobacco-plant-based vivoXPRESS® platform to prevent *Escherichia coli* (E. coli) O157 infections in livestock, particularly pigs. The therapeutic consists of antibody fragments that target *E. coli* and inhibit its ability to colonize the epithelial cells of the gut wall. Intended for delivery as a low-cost, minimally processed feed additive, the product aims to reduce the shedding of viable bacteria, thereby breaking the cycle of infection and transmission among animals and potentially reducing the risk of zoonotic transmission to humans. This research project was supported by the Ontario Agri-Food Research Initiative and involves collaboration with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and Western University.
