Plasma-activated water (PAW) is produced by exposing water to atmospheric plasma, which introduces reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) such as hydroxyl radicals, hydrogen peroxide, nitric oxide, and nitrogen dioxide. This process alters the physicochemical properties of the water—lowering its pH due to acidification from dissolved nitrogen oxides, increasing electrical conductivity from nitrate ions, and raising oxidative potential. The resulting solution exhibits strong antimicrobial activity due to the presence of these reactive species. PAW is used in food decontamination for microbial reduction on surfaces and products; in agriculture for promoting plant growth via enhanced nutrient availability; and in biomedical applications such as wound disinfection and medical device sterilization[1][3][4].
