Overview

Plasma frozen within 24 hours (PF24 or FP24) is a blood component prepared from a single unit of whole blood or via apheresis. Unlike Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), which must be frozen within 8 hours of collection, PF24 is frozen within 24 hours and stored at -18°C or colder. This product contains all stable coagulation factors, including fibrinogen and prothrombin, though it may contain slightly reduced levels of labile factors like Factor VIII and Factor V compared to FFP. It is clinically utilized for the management of bleeding in patients with acquired multiple coagulation factor deficiencies, such as those resulting from liver disease, massive transfusion, or the reversal of warfarin effects when specific concentrates are unavailable. It is also used in plasma exchange procedures.
