Plasma-Lyte P

Plasma-Lyte P is a sterile, nonpyrogenic isotonic solution designed for intravenous administration. It functions as a source of water and electrolytes, and is capable of inducing diuresis depending on the patient's clinical condition. The solution produces a metabolic alkalinizing effect, primarily due to the metabolism of its acetate and gluconate ions into carbon dioxide and water, a process that consumes hydrogen cations. It is indicated for fluid replacement in various conditions such as burns, head injury, fractures, infection, peritoneal irritation, and as intraoperative fluid replacement. It is also used in hemorrhagic shock and clinical situations requiring rapid blood transfusions, as well as in mild to moderate metabolic acidosis. The product is manufactured by Baxter Healthcare.
