**Plasma protein fraction human** is a sterile, plasma-derived colloid solution for intravenous infusion composed primarily of human albumin with smaller quantities of alpha and beta globulins. It expands intravascular plasma volume through the colloid osmotic pressure of its protein content and is used for plasma-volume replacement in shock caused by burns, crushing injuries, abdominal emergencies, hemorrhage, and other settings with predominant plasma-fluid loss. The currently labeled United States product, **Plasmanate**, contains 5 g selected plasma proteins per 100 mL and is approximately iso-oncotic and isotonic with normal plasma.
