Plasma rich with WNV neutralizing antibodies is a biological product derived from human plasma, specifically from individuals who have recovered from West Nile Virus (WNV) infection and possess high titers of neutralizing antibodies against the virus. This therapeutic approach, often referred to as passive immunotherapy, aims to confer immediate, temporary immunity to recipients. The antibodies in the plasma bind to and neutralize the West Nile Virus, preventing its entry into host cells and inhibiting its replication, thereby mitigating the severity of the infection, particularly neuroinvasive forms of the disease. It is administered intravenously and is being investigated as a treatment for West Nile Fever, especially in hospitalized patients with severe symptoms. While some studies have explored its use, there are currently no approved or recommended therapies for WNV disease, and further large-scale controlled clinical trials are needed to establish its efficacy.
