Overview

The drug 'plasmid GDNF DNA' is a gene therapy under development by Northeastern University in collaboration with Copernicus Therapeutics and Tufts University, supported by a grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) through the NIH HEAL Initiative. This therapy employs Copernicus's patented, non-viral DNA nanoparticles (pGDNF NPs) for the intranasal delivery of the Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) gene to the brain. The primary objective is to restore dopamine function and mitigate drug-seeking behavior, specifically targeting opioid use disorder.
