Overview

Platelet concentrates re-suspended in autologous plasma are a blood component used for transfusion to treat or prevent bleeding in patients with thrombocytopenia. In this preparation, platelets collected from a donor are maintained in a portion of the donor's own plasma, which provides the necessary environment for platelet viability and function. This specific preparation was utilized by the Etablissement Français du Sang (EFS) as a reference arm in the EFFIPAP clinical trial to compare the hemostatic efficacy of newer technologies, such as pathogen-reduced platelets and platelets stored in additive solutions, in patients with bone marrow aplasia.
