Overview

Platelet-free plasma (PFP) is an autologous biologic intervention derived from a patient's own blood, processed to remove platelets and their associated growth factors. In clinical trials conducted by the Genesis Athens Clinic, PFP is utilized as a control or placebo comparator against autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for the treatment of premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). The intervention involves an intra-ovarian infusion aimed at determining whether the therapeutic effects observed with PRP are due to the concentrated growth factors (such as VEGF and TGF) or the infusion process itself. It is specifically being studied for its role in restoring ovarian function and promoting folliculogenesis in women aged 25-39.
