Platelet Gel is a blood-derived biomaterial obtained through the activation of platelet-rich plasma, resulting in the simultaneous conversion of fibrinogen into a fibrin gel and the generation of a platelet releasate rich in growth factors. It is created by harvesting the body's natural healing factors from blood and combining it with thrombin and calcium to form a coagulum. This therapeutic preparation contains concentrated platelets (5-10 times higher than normal blood samples) that release growth factors to stimulate and accelerate wound healing processes. Platelet Gel is 100% biocompatible and poses no infectious risk when made from a patient's own blood (autologous). It can also be prepared from allogeneic (donor) sources. The growth factors released from platelets include platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor, and platelet-derived angiogenesis factor, which enhance wound healing through autocrine and paracrine mechanisms.
