Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Platelet lysate (PL) is an autologous biologic therapy developed by Regenexx, LLC, specifically for the treatment of lumbosacral radiculopathy (sciatica). It is an advanced derivative of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) produced by lysing (breaking open) the patient's own platelets to immediately release a high concentration of growth factors, cytokines, and exosomes. Unlike standard PRP, which contains intact platelets that release factors over time, PL provides an immediate anti-inflammatory effect, making it more suitable for use around sensitive nerve roots in the epidural space. The treatment is administered via image-guided epidural injection and is being evaluated as a regenerative alternative to corticosteroid injections.
