Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is an autologous, second-generation platelet concentrate used as a regenerative therapy for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Developed for this indication by the Intima Clinic, PRF is obtained by centrifuging a patient's own blood without anticoagulants, resulting in a dense fibrin matrix that traps platelets, leukocytes, and cytokines. When injected into the periurethral or suburethral tissues, PRF acts as a biological scaffold that provides a sustained release of growth factors, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β). These factors stimulate angiogenesis, fibroblast activation, and collagen synthesis, which aim to restore the structural integrity of the urethral sphincter and pelvic floor support. This autologous approach is being evaluated as a minimally invasive alternative or adjunct to energy-based treatments like High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU).
