Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a second-generation autologous platelet concentrate produced from a patient's own blood through centrifugation without the addition of anticoagulants or bovine thrombin. It consists of a dense fibrin matrix that sequesters platelets, leukocytes, and a variety of cytokines and growth factors. This matrix acts as a biological scaffold and a reservoir for the sustained release of key regenerative molecules, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). PRF is widely utilized in oral and maxillofacial surgery, periodontology, and wound management to accelerate soft-tissue healing, promote angiogenesis, and enhance bone regeneration. Its autologous nature eliminates the risk of immune rejection or cross-infection.
