Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is an autologous, second-generation platelet concentrate prepared from a patient's own blood through centrifugation without the addition of anticoagulants. It consists of a dense fibrin matrix that traps platelets, leukocytes, and a high concentration of growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). In clinical research conducted by Pamukkale University, PRF is administered intracochlearly during cochlear implantation surgery. The primary objective is to leverage its anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties to mitigate surgical trauma-induced fibrosis. By reducing the fibrotic cascade, PRF aims to enhance the effectiveness of the cochlear implant and decrease its power consumption in patients with sensorineural hearing loss.
