Autologous platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) in orabase is an investigational biologic therapy developed by Beni-Suef University for the treatment of chronic oral ulcers and oral mucositis. It is prepared by centrifuging the patient's own blood to isolate a fibrin matrix rich in platelets, which is then minced and incorporated into an oral paste base (orabase). This formulation acts as a bioactive scaffold that provides a sustained release of endogenous growth factors—such as platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)—to promote tissue regeneration, accelerate wound healing, and provide pain relief. In clinical studies, it has shown efficacy in reducing pain and ulcer size in patients with persistent oral lesions from blistering skin diseases, demonstrating superior results compared to conventional topical corticosteroid therapy.
