Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous biologic therapy being investigated by the Tri-Service General Hospital in Taiwan for the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The treatment involves drawing the patient's own venous blood, concentrating the platelets through centrifugation, and injecting the resulting PRP—rich in growth factors and bioactive proteins—into the carpal tunnel under ultrasound guidance. The mechanism of action is thought to involve the release of growth factors that promote median nerve regeneration, reduce inflammation, and facilitate tissue healing. Clinical trials at the hospital have evaluated its efficacy in patients with mild-to-severe CTS, comparing it against traditional treatments like night splints or placebo injections.
