Overview

This investigational combination therapy consists of intranasally administered autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and topical insulin. It is currently being evaluated by Dr. Amin Javer for the treatment of post-inflammatory anosmia, a condition characterized by persistent loss of smell following viral or inflammatory insults. The therapy leverages the regenerative potential of PRP, which contains high concentrations of growth factors such as platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and insulin-like growth factor (IGF), alongside the neurotrophic and anti-inflammatory properties of insulin. By targeting the olfactory epithelium and olfactory neurons, the combination aims to promote neuroregeneration and restore olfactory function. The treatment is administered as a biologic modality where PRP is applied intranasally and insulin is applied topically to the olfactory cleft.
