Autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a biological preparation derived from a patient's own peripheral blood through centrifugation, which concentrates platelets in a small volume of plasma. Upon activation, these platelets release a high concentration of bioactive proteins and growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). These factors promote tissue repair, stimulate myogenesis, and modulate inflammatory responses. In clinical practice, PRP is used to treat various musculoskeletal conditions, including acute skeletal muscle injuries, by injecting the concentrate directly into the site of injury to accelerate healing and potentially reduce fibrosis. It is often evaluated in combination with other agents, such as the anti-fibrotic drug losartan, to enhance therapeutic outcomes in sports medicine.
