Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous biologic therapy being investigated by Benha University for the treatment of refractory overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome. PRP is derived from the patient's own blood and contains a high concentration of platelets, which release various growth factors and cytokines upon activation. These factors, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), promote tissue repair, angiogenesis, and cell regeneration within the bladder wall. In clinical studies at Benha University, PRP is administered via intravesical injection into the sub-urothelial layer to improve bladder function and reduce symptoms such as urgency and frequency in patients who have failed standard medical therapies for at least six months.
