Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous biological intervention derived from a patient's own blood, concentrated to contain a high density of platelets. In the context of adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), it is being investigated by Ege University for its potential to modulate inflammatory and fibrotic processes within the shoulder joint capsule. The treatment involves extracting venous blood, centrifuging it to isolate the platelet fraction, and injecting the resulting concentrate into the affected area. The high concentration of growth factors released by activated platelets—including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)—is hypothesized to promote tissue healing, reduce pain, and improve range of motion in patients with adhesive capsulitis.
