Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous blood product characterized by a platelet concentration significantly higher than the baseline in whole blood. It contains a diverse array of growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which are released upon platelet activation. These factors promote tissue healing, angiogenesis, and neuroprotection. In the treatment of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), PRP is administered via ultrasound-guided perineural injection to target damaged nerves, aiming to reduce neuropathic pain and improve functional recovery through its regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties. The South Egypt Cancer Institute is investigating this therapy in clinical trials for cancer patients suffering from CIPN.
